Dailing instructions

Between the 37th and 42nd week of pregnancy, we can help with the birth of your baby at home or in the hospital. When should you call us? If any of the following situations occur before 37 weeks, please contact us immediately.

Dialing instructions before and up to childbirth:

If you have contractions:

  • If it is your first baby, you should call us when the contractions are every 3 to 4 minutes and if they hold on for a minute and this occurs for at least an hour;
  • If it is not your first child you have to call if you have contractions every 5 minutes and if they hold on for a minute and this occurs for at least an hour;
  • Or call us sooner if we have discussed it with you.

If your waters break:

  • If your water breaks and the color of the amniotic fluid is green or brown, always call immediately, day or night;
  • If your water breaks, but you have no contractions every 5 minutes and the water is clear (light pink, with or without white flakes) you do not have to call immediately. At nighttime you can wait until the next morning, during the day you can always call us;
  • Bright red blood loss is normal during the delivery. Your cervix is a highly perfused area and a small vein can easily burst. But if you have vaginal bleeding and the blood is not easily wiped away then you must call us immediately.

And very important: Always call if you’re worried!

During the consultation at 36 weeks we can discuss this.
